Remember a while back we had reported on a rumour that the finale of Doctor Who Season Ten could see the show having Peter Capaldi’s first appearance in The 50th Anniversary Special, The Day of the Doctor (here) actually be his last in the show (here)? Or that, in that report, we speculated that we would see actor David Bradley appear as William Hartnell’s first Doctor from 1967?
Well, we’re hearing rumblings that the season finale this Saturday – The Doctor Falls (which ties neatly into the Gallifrey Stands and ‘Gallifrey Falls No More’ motifs of the 50th Anniversary special, don’t you think?)- will have an appearance by someone very unexpected and we’re thinking it’s going to be the First Doctor.
Bradley played Hartnell in the BBC Doctor Who drama Adventures In Time And Space, which chronicled how the show got its beginnings with Hartnell being the first actor to play the role, so we already know that Hot Fuzz and Harry Potter start Bradley has the acting chops for the gig and he certainly has the appearance.
Add to this a post from the FB page ‘We don’t care what you think! Doctor Who is epic‘ that points out the set for Hartnell’s TARDIS is currently missing from the Doctor Who Experience in Cardiff and also that Bradley has told a fan (allegedly) that he is currently doing something for Doctor Who, then we reckon there’s a very good chance we’re about to see Doctor Who future meet his first days.
But why? We currently have two incarnations of The Master and Missy, so will the Doctor meet himself in his final hour? Or, will he regenerate into his first incarnation and carry on into the Christmas Special?
Remember, Tom Baker’s Curator told Matt Smith’s Doctor in Day of the Doctor: “You might find yourself revisiting a few [familiar faces]… but just the old favourites” (here) – it was certainly hinted that the Curator IS the Doctor’s final incarnation in this episode, so if he can regenerate back into Tom Baker, could he also regenerate into his first face?
We’re just speculating, of course, but with the all the awesome running around as Peter Capaldi prepares to step down as TARDIS pilot we reckon anything can happen.
