Star Trek Discovery loses two major character for Season 3

Well, no sooner are they here than they’re away again…

Star Trek: Discovery is losing two big cast members in season three as Anson Mount, who came on board as Captain Christopher Pike of the USS Enterprise, and Rebecca Romijn, who played Number One, are both leaving at the end of this season.

One is that the duo both had strict one-year deals to tie Discovery to the established Trek lore before leaving again. Does this mean we’ll meet Kirk in Season 3? Doubtful… but you never know.

But with the season now wrapped in Toronto, we may still have more of Pike’s story to see… fans of the original series’ lore will recall that Pike has pretty grim fate, being left in a wheelchair, disfigured and unable to speak.

Will we see this happen in Discovery? Showrunner Kurtzman had this to say in January: “This season we get inside his character in a way that we we didn’t get to do in the films. And the fact that we will synchronize with canon by the end of this season, that means we may see shades of where we all know Pike will end up.”

Could be a bumpy road ahead for Pike before the close of this season.

Thoughts?
