Stargate Origins casting news roundup

October 12th, 2017 by Dave Bowling Comments

The fourth TV series (we’re not counting the cartoon Infinity coz it was just strange) in the Stargate franchise is moving closer to the small screen, with some interesting casting decisions.

Firstly, Australian actress Ellie Gall has been cast as Catherine Langford. A longtime feature of the lore behind the Stargate franchise, Catherine was the daughter of Professor Paul Langford, the archaeologist that originally unearthed the Stargate in Egypt in the 1920s. She also originally brought Egyptologist Dr Daniel Jackson into the project in the original Stargate movie and made occasional appearances in SG1.

Ellie Gall comes into Stargate Origins on the back of appearances in shows like Crime Investigation Australia and, naturally, Home and Away. She is also set to appear in the third season of Ash vs The Evil Dead next year. Gall had this to say when the casting news was announced:

The opportunity to portray this iconic character is once in a lifetime. I’m thrilled to be a part of the Stargate family and I hope Stargate fans are as equally excited as I am about Catherine Langford’s new adventure.

In other casting news, Star Trek: Enterprise and Stargate Atlantis alumni Connor Trinneer has also been cast in Origins as Paul Langford.

Trineer previously portrayed Michael Kenmore in a character arc that spanned ten appearances over three seasons of Stargate Atlantis. His casting as the archaeologist responsible for finding the gate in the first place adds him to a cast that includes Gall, Salome Azizi, Philip Alexander, Michelle Jubilee Gonzalez, Daniel Rashid, Sarah Navratil, Shvan Aladdin, Tonatiuh Elizarraraz, Derek Chariton, Justin Michael Terry and Lincoln Werner Hoppe. Principal photography is currently underway, with MGM planning to announce more casting news in the near future.

He has been a self-confessed geek for as long as he can remember, having been raised through the 80s on a steady diet of Doctor Who, Star Trek, Red Dwarf and (sigh) Knight Rider. Throw the usual assortment of Saturday morning cartoons into the mix and we have something quite exceptional: someone with an encyclopaedic knowledge of utter tosh; a love of giant robots and spaceships fighting; and the strange desire to leap tall buildings in a single bound while wearing his underpants over his trousers. The death ray is currently in the works and one day you shall all bow to him, his giant space station and fleet of funky orange space shuttles...
