TV REVIEWS: FTN Reviews Agents Of Shield Season 05 Episode 09: Best Laid Plans

January 27th, 2018 by Todd Black Comments

It looks like next weeks episode is going to be the one that takes everyone (or most everyone home) and I have say, it couldn’t have come at a better time. For tonight’s episode was literally 50% entertaining and 50% delaying, and I’m really over this storyline.

On one hand, you had the rebellion going on at the Lighthouse. Mack, Yo-Yo and the other humans had to work together to survive the Kree attacks and Kasius incinerating all of them. The revelation of his plan was very haunting, as it showed just how cruel he can be when push come to shove. Plus, bringing back Tess to deliver the message was shocking. I don’t know what Yo-Yo said when she saw her, but I bet I can guess.

The best part though, was that kind of resurrection was canon, and I loved that Mack brought it up. Cause some people would’ve been lost if they didn’t see Season 01. Plus, the showdown with the four and Kasius was very well handled, as well as his use of Kasius’ weakness in regards to talking, all so that the human levels of the Lighthouse could not be touched by Kasius again. It was very clever.

Sadly, the rest of the story honestly wasn’t, save for a few parts. The “get the Zephyr” off the ground was an inevitability, and the fact that it took the whole episode to get to where it got into space was kind of sad. Furthermore, the Deek storyline about “whether he’ll betray them again” was forced beyond measure. We KNEW he wouldn’t kill Daisy or anything of them because we know that all on the Zephyr live (except maybe Enoch because he actually is from the current time). So the long drawn out talks with Voss to “plant seeds of doubt” was honestly pointless.

There were only two really good parts about the Zephyr storyline. One was that May started to wonder if she actually could be a mother, with Coulson and Daisy fully supporting that she totally could be. The other was the fight scene between Daisy and Simar, in zero-gravity no less! Well, for most of it. And Simar’s death was brutal yet very satisfying.

Oh, and now Kasius’ has a “Seer”? Really? Why didn’t he use that before??? Unless it was Deek…which would be horrible in numerous ways. Guess we’ll find out.

“Best Laid Plans” had moments of greatness, but it didn’t save a storyline that’ honestly dragged out for far too long. Let’s wrap it up agents, you got bigger fish to fry.
