TV REVIEWS: FTN Reviews Black Lightning Season 2 Episode 11: Prodigal Son

January 29th, 2019 by Todd Black Comments

I swear, Black Lightning is one of the few superhero series that can honestly can little to no action, and yet still be compelling. “Prodigal Son” dealt with the fallout from last weeks premiere, and it was one that shined many lights on how the back half of the season is going to go.

First up, Kalil is gone. This may have seemed like a foregone conclusion given his condition at the end of last episode, but true to comic book form, they have to try and save him. And for a minute or two, you might have believed that they were going to do it. But sadly, they could not.

Which of course leads us to Jennifer who is getting even more power, allowing her plenty of new abilities, including being able to hover in midair! Oh, and she totally blew up a racist person car…because why not? Her ending scene with Kalil was honestly very touching, as it related not only how much they loved each other but also, the missed opportunities that they were never going to get to do together.

Jefferson feeling bad about Kalil also hit him, even though I don’t know why he didn’t want to kill Tobias. That was his mission in season 1 and part of season 2, why not promise to do it for Kalil? That being said, looping in Henderson on the “Lightning Lair” (I just made that up, I’m awesome) and Gambi was a big step. As their circle of allies is now growing stronger.

Tobias had a big episode too, as we found out about his connection to Dr. Jace. SHE was the person who made the anti-aging serum that made Tobias immortal, and she was the one who knew about the location of the original metas. And now that he has them…he’s even more powerful too.

The Anissa/Grace stuff was ok, but until we deal with Grace’s condition more, it’s honestly not much to talk about.

“Prodigal Son” set up a lot of new chips on the board, and with Jennifer now having a very strong reason to go after Tobias, I look forward to her suiting up as Lightning.
