TV REVIEWS: FTN Reviews Legends Of Tomorrow Season 03 Episode 3: Zari

October 25th, 2017 by Todd Black Comments

After returning to “classic” form last episode, the Legends of Tomorrow took a fun stop on their journey with “Zari”, which actually helped not only the plot, but certain characters, as well as bringing in a new one to the team.

First and foremost, Zari is a nickname apparently for Arianna…who people will know as the wife of Black Adam…and the villain/anti-hero Isis. Now, obviously, he won’t be appearing on the show, and she’s clearly not the same character from the comics, but hey, it’s cool to have a piece of SHAZAM! lore in the Arrowverse. And for what it’s worth, her character played very well with the Legends, and it made sense for them to bring her on at the end.

I did like the Seattle 2042 future, one where Argus has taken over, and the “Metahuman Act of 2021” has helped turn the world into a police state. It makes you wonder not only what happened then, but where the rest of our heroes are. Do recall, we’ve already been to 2046 in Star City…so…

This episode was also good for our “Water Woman”…yep, they went there, and showing why she’s a great threat. I liked the use of the water effects, and essentially making her a Waterbender for lack of a better turn. But also, one that can take on White Canary and the others in a fight.

Another highlight was the Time Bureau, and how Agent Sharpe has run out of patience with Sara and the Legends. On one hand, you can understand her frustration. But on the other…yeah…let’s just say that Gideon took the words out of ALL of our mouths…am I right?

Meanwhile, Nate helped Amaya work out her Totem issues, and it was actually a nice twist. She’s not losing control, the Totem is just getting more powerful, and she needs to accept it in order to control it, and boy did she ever! Oh, and Nate going on a spirit quest of his own? Classic.

The question now is, where is this all heading? Our “Water Woman” wouldn’t kill Amaya, which means she has a connection to her, and the team behind LOT have said that Zari is going to have a profound effect on the Legends, so how far will that take them? And where is our big bad? We REALLY need to see him soon. And many other Totems are out there? It’s becoming clear that the Totems are an elemental presence, with Zari’s being wind, so…are there many more waiting to be gotten?

All in all though, “Zari” was an entertaining journey into a hopefully not set future, and one that helps change the game with the new characters it brought.
