TV REVIEWS: FTN Reviews Legends Of Tomorrow Season 5 Episode 10: The Great British Fake-Off

April 29th, 2020 by Todd Black Comments

Unlike tonight’s episode of The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow truly had a focused and awesome set of storylines that made everything feel important as they tied it all together. “The Great British Fake-Off” started in shocking fashion as we got to see the Arrowverse version of Enchantress for the first time ever (with a tinge more comic accuracy than Suicide Squad though obviously there have been a few different Enchantress over the years…). And it was with her that the final ring of the loom was built.

But, when John tried to summon the ring, things went wrong, Sara got put into a coma, and both John and Zari were trapped in the past with a ring that seemingly couldn’t be found. If that wasn’t enough, the score of Encores that Astra had locked away were sent to go get the ring at all costs.

If you had told me that Constantine and Zari were going to be the focus of this episode before I watched it, I wouldn’t have been happy. This version of Zari is VERY annoying, and early parts of the episode proved that once again. But, when she started to step up and even help John in various ways, she became much more appealing. Arguably the best scene was when Zari admitted that her life was very empty, and that she focused on her work because her boyfriend cheated on her and her mother thought she was shallow.

To be clear, I’m not a fan of Zari and Constantine getting together because of the Nate issue, but we’ll see how it plays out.

Having them go up against a bunch of Encores like Bonnie and Clyde, Henry The VIII, Brutus, Jack the Ripper and more was a fun surprise, and one I approve of. Especially now that they’re basically all wiped out save for…Vandal Savage…

Meanwhile, with John and Zari in danger, I loved that Ava again took charge and took the fight to Astra, revealing to her that the Fates aren’t to be trusted (and the one we thought was dead is somehow alive…). Having her on the Waverider is a fun twist, and one that’ll no doubt pay off big as the season starts to wind down.

I also appreciated how Mick wanted to survive the mission just so he could go to his daughters soccer match. This is getting good.

Unlike Gary…who still needs to die slowly and painfully. I’m just saying.

In the end, “The Great British Fake-Off’ was a wonderfully fun and deep episode that showed off a lot of things with only a few small bumps. Now let’s see where Fate takes the Legends.
