TV REVIEWS: FTN Reviews Legends of Tomorrow Season 7 Episode 9: Lowest Common Demoninator

January 20th, 2022 by Todd Black Comments

So last week I gave what I’m pretty sure is the lowest score I ever gave for an episode of LOT. I’m pleased to say that this episode will NOT be getting that same score. The bad news is that it’s only getting 1 star above that because “Lowest Common Demoninator” was almost as horrible

Rewinding back to the midseason finale, Gideon got the Legends out from the “robo-Legends” and put them back in John’s extradimensional mansion (somehow…) and of course, nothing could be easy while they “relaxed” there…so…they were invaded by a demon film crew and had their emotions “turned up” to the point where they were basically knockoff reality show personalities…and it was painful to watch.

Not the least of which was because literally last episode, we saw the “fake Legends” be amped up versions of the LOT in a different way. So now, we have had back-to-back episodes of the Legends…not being the Legends, and it was draining. Especially when, once again, we saw them act in ways that they would never do normally. And yes, while both episodes explained this (kind of), it still made no sense to go this far.

Sara being so aloof? Ava becoming her fake mother? Nate being a musclehead (they remember he’s a professor, right?) Spooner being a nudist? And that was just the surface stuff! Things intensified in such a weird way that it was another case of me fast-forwarding things just to get through it all.

Especially Gary and Gideon being together…why in the world was that put into the world?

Arguably the worst part of it was that they gave the Legends an out via Astrid, and because of Behrad “looking out for her”, he blew their one chance to get out of there easily!

Behrad’s “emergence” if you will was also mixed. I was fine with him “getting real” and admitting how certain things got to him and turned him into a stoner. The problem though is…we never had any indication of this before. We’ve had Behrad and Zari 2.0 for a few seasons now and this is the first time we’ve heard of their ‘reality show’. Kind of seems odd, don’t you think? Almost as if it was created for JUST this episode? That’s just lazy.

Not to mention, Behrad (by his own admission) has never shown any indications of repressed or sad feelings. But yet he’s admitting it all NOW? Even though he’s had blow-ups with others in the past?

And trust me when I saw I would’ve given this a 1/5 if they ruined OG Zari’s relationship with Nate because of the reality insanity. They almost did it, but theyn they went into a much weirder angle and I was happy when OG Zari came to help stop the madness.

Also, them censoring the prayers and holy gestures was honestly funny (one of the few things in this episode that was funny) because that would be something they do.

In the end, “Lowest Common Demoninator” took things too far once again from what the core LOT crew is about and I’m so over it. And now they have to…prevent WWI from happening? I hope there’s a twist coming.

2/5
