TV REVIEWS: FTN Reviews The Batwoman Season 3 Finale

March 3rd, 2022 by Todd Black Comments

I’ll keep this one short because honestly…there’s not much to say. Unlike Legends of Tomorrow’s season finale (my review is up for you to read there as well), there’s not much to dissect. Because “Are We Having Fun Yet?” went so much by the book…it was bland.

As revealed in the preview, Marcus was aiming to spill the beans about Batwoman’s identity. But, as Alice would reveal, this was just a trick so that he could get everyone outside so that he could rain acid bombs on them from the…I kid you not, this is comic accurate, Bat-Blimp, and make them so disfigured that they’d have no choice but to blame Batwoman for what happened.

All in all…not a bad plan. The Joker’s plan, that is, not Marquis, despite people calling him it…he’s still not the Joker.

Anywho, naturally, the plan was to stop him, and they did…because what else did you expect? I told you this was bland for a season finale, and while I may not have liked all that happened in the Season 2 finale in regards to what happened with Kate and certain other characters…it still had moments that had you wondering what would happen next. Here…? Not so much.

The reason I say that is because they stuck to Ryan wanting to get “her family back” at all costs, even when Mary all but begged Ryan to give the buzzer to Alice, who in turn was basically tricked into not taking because, “if anyone can survive hard, it’s you Alice!”, wait what? That’s the big revelation here? Also, who did we go from repentant Alice to “I’m going to fry my own brain if I have to!” Alice? Exactly.

Furthermore, the confrontation with Marquis on the blimp was both odd, and very comic book-y in the worst ways. And yes, I know this is a comic book show, but they pushed the limits here. Such as Ryan punching Marquis and demanding him to “give my brother back!” even though…and I have to reiterate this…SHE NEVER KNEW HIM!!! Also, that bat grapple onto Marquis? Not a chance. Nope.

But the real deal-breaker for me was that the buzzer not only worked…but apparently…no consequences are going to be handed to Marquis. Because…reasons? Oh, and he didn’t destroy the Batcave to ensure that his sister couldn’t “fix what he did” because…reasons? One more thing, remember how Marquis got “fired” by the board of Wayne? Well…he fired that board, remember? He mentioned that in the party episode. So his downfall was that he didn’t hire people loyal to him and him alone? Right…

Alice also leaving is a key point for me that has to be seen to be believed. I hope she comes back, this show DESPERATELY needs Alice/Beth, but whether it happens? I don’t know.

And while the ending teases of a “skeletal villain” is nice…I just don’t know if I care to see who it is. Plus, given the uncertainty over the CW and all its shows…it’s not guaranteed that Batwoman will get renewed at all.

In the end, to the question of, “Are We Having Fun Yet?” I say…no. Not really.

2.5/5
