TV REVIEWS: FTN Reviews The Gifted Season 2 Episode 13: tempTed

January 23rd, 2019 by Todd Black Comments

After a very compelling episode last week, The Gifted kind of spun in place with “tempTed”, as a lot of very minor storylines came to pass, and with very little progress on the main storyline.

For example, we found out specifically why Urk doesn’t try humans, and that was good, but then after Glow was shot, he was forced to trust Kate in order to save her life. Good? Sure. A season 2 episode near the back half? Not so much. The “M” marking at the end was a nice touch though.

Then, there was Lauren, who decided to stop sleeping because she could feel the Frosts influence on her (though not exactly that it was them doing the mind-probing), and this actually led to her going out and trying to find Andy…but it’s never exactly established what was driving her so strongly. Was it the music box? Was it the Frosts? And why didn’t she know where to go? It was all very weird.

Reed coming clean about his past was nice, and her using his drugs to suppress her Fenris abilities was nice, but again, a very small step on the larger plan.

The only storyline that was really large scale was Lorna continuing to search for clues as to what Reeva is planning. Apparently she wants to wipe out the entire government, and needed her hit crew to amp up their powers to do the job. Lorna getting caught is going to happen, but having the head guy killed by Marcos (and Marcos getting shot in the process) was a nice twist. It just remains to be seen how this will all play out.

“tempTed” wasn’t bad per se, it just didn’t advance things as much as they needed to. And as the Mutant Underground said, “if all you have are speeches, then the Inner Circle has won”. Something NEEDS to happen, and soon.
