TV REVIEWS: FTN Reviews The Legends Of Tomorrow Season 03 Finale: The Good, The Bad, and the Cuddly

April 10th, 2018 by Todd Black Comments

Man, only Legends of Tomorrow can crank up the silliness and yet have it feel completely in line with what’s going on in the series. “The Good, The Bad, And The Cuddly” was another great season finale for the show, and with the confirmation of Season 04, it lends new weight to things that happened.

First up, Mallous is really Malice…ok. Let’s move on.

Anyway, with him free, all of time was in danger, so the Legends felt it was best to hide in a place where the totems would be safe until a plan could be made. But, releasing a Time Demon means nothing is safe or sacred, so even though they went to Salvation, home of the returning Jonah Hex, it was anything but safe.

I loved that they brought in Caesar, Blackbird, and the lady Viking (whose name escapes me, sorry) to act as beacons of Malice…Mallous…whatever, it ties the season together. As was when the team decided to ask for help and they got Helen of Troy, a reborn Kuasa and…Jax! I knew Jax was coming, but it was going to be fun to see in what way. Turns out, he got the signal five years into his future. He’s got a wife and a kid now, which proves that even Legends can get happy endings.

Meanwhile, with Nora dead, Ray again felt again about her, and decided to help Damian free her, and they did! But…Malice (Mallous) decided to take over Damian’s body instead. Which ironically was not only a good way for him to go, but a definitive way of keeping the character dead now. We thank you for your service, Neal McDonough.

So, with Malice/Mallous on the loose and his armies invading Salvation, they needed a way to stop him. Well, the Totems had one final trick, one that made sense given their origin. They could unite to create an avatar of light to defeat the dark. And they decided to choose…Beebo. Yeah, Beebo. While not the best CGI (and I can think of at least three better avatars, including Voltron), the fight itself was funny and interesting, and it was great to see the Legends truly rejoice in their victory. And then…head to Aruba!

However, they were stopped eventually by Constantine (and Gary) who revealed that releasing M.M really wasn’t a good idea. And so Season 04 is teased!

Now, as good as this episode was, there were some things that were both confusing and conflicting. One, I HATED how ONCE AGAIN, Rip “sacrificed” himself to “buy the team some time”. They did this at the beginning of Season 02 and now they did it again here. Is there any real doubt that Rip is once again flung through time? Not to me.

Also, there was a VERY light explanation as to why the Legends met their ancestors or relatives in the season, but the reasoning didn’t apply to everyone. Including how Ray AND Wally could both use the Water totem despite not being able to do it before.

Finally, as predicted, Amaya went back to her home in 1948, but chose to not forget all that happened. Which breaks the timeline in numerous ways, including Kuasa’s and Amari’s potential birth, as well as the events that happened in last episode where Amaya didn’t know who Nate was when he met her older version. So…how is nothing broken? Or maybe it’ll be “fixed” offscreen? I don’t know.

Either way though, “The Good, The Bad, and The Cuddly” was a fun and true capper on the season and proof that the Legends live up to the name. Bring on Season 04…AND CONSTANTINE AS A REGULAR!!!
