WATCH: Full clip from Scott Pilgrim Takes Off crashes in!

September 28th, 2023 by Marc Comments

We have our first full clip from Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, the upcoming Anime series from Netflix and it’s looking great.

Lovingly crossed between the scene as it played out in the comic and then the movie, this is a familiar, but fresh take on Scott’s story and we here at FTN HQ are all in for it.

The series features the whole cast from Edgar Wright’s cult classic movie and in a recent interview Scott himself, Michael Cera, talked about the new series and recording the role of Scott once more, fifteen years later: “It’s strange and very fun,” Cera said.

“Scott Pilgrim has such a specific energy. The whole project, the whole world of Scott Pilgrim, is very energetic and really funny.”

He said that the script from creator Bryan Lee O’Malley is so good he was constantly excited about recording on it: “Every time I’ve recorded it, I have to send Brian an email saying, ‘I love this so much. I’m so excited about it.”

Series co-writer BenDavid Grabinski said recently of the new series’ scale: “There’s an extended fight sequence in Episodes 2 and 3 that, if this was a live-action movie, would cost more than Avatar. It would be so unbelievably big. And you don’t have to think that way [in animation]. You’re not limited.

“If you made a live-action movie of the show that we did, I think it would be the most expensive movie ever, and you’d be shooting for ten years,” Grabinski says. “It would be a total Hearts Of Darkness situation.”

He goes on to say that, despite it being animated, a lot of the fun stuff happened during production: “Some of my favourite stuff in the season was not in our outlines, was not planned at all, and came way late in the process. Sometimes you’d just be like, ‘Wait, we live in a world that has vegan powers and people bursting into song. Why are we doing this f@%king normal plot point here?’ There’s just so many opportunities for your imagination to run wild.”

On the overlap between the movie, the game, the comic, and now the anime, Grabinski says: “I want these all to be in conversation with each other.

You can watch the movie and then go read the books, you can read the books and watch the movie, you can watch our show, then play the game, then read the books, then watch the movie. The order doesn’t really matter — they all kind of feed off each other.”

So, kinda like Douglas Adams’ Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, then? Nice.

Scott Pilgrim meets the girl of his dreams, Ramona Flowers, but learns he must defeat her seven evil exes in order to date her. Then things get even more complicated.

Based on the graphic novels by Bryan Lee O’Malley. Scott Pilgrim Takes Off is coming soon to Netflix on November 17th.

Thoughts? I know you have them! Voice-off in the usual ways on FTN’s FacebookTwitter and Instagram

Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars.
