WATCH: Supernatural prequel, The Winchesters, gets a trailer and poster…

Fans of Supernatural, the long-running CW series which ended a couple of years ago, will recall that the adventure would never have happened had it not been for the Winchester brothers, Sam and Dean’s, parents John and Mary, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Samantha Smith.

Well, now Drake Rodger and Meg Donnelly are stepping into the parents’ shoes for a new prequel series, The Winchesters, which will debut on The CW this coming Fall.

As we reported last year (here), the series will feature Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester who will narrate and presumably bookend the episodes. It appears that Supernatural co-star Jared Padalecki (Sam Winchester) has not been brought back.

Ever imagine the Winchester brothers as Ghostbusters? We got ya covered…

The curious thing here, that fans of Supernatural will have spotted, is that in the original series John didn’t know Mary’s true calling until she died but in this series she appears to tell him when she first meets him… that said, with a show like this, there’s probably a myriad of ways to explain it away.

This is not the first time Supernatural had a spin-off series planned (here) but hopefully, this one will land and find its feet because we’d imagine there’s some exciting stories to be told in this universe, still.

Supernatural is part of The Arrowverse… confirmed

Mary is 19 years old and has been fighting the forces of darkness since she was a child. After losing someone close to her, the hardened hunter considers quitting the family business — until her father’s disappearance and the arrival of newcomer John forces her to lead a new team. John has recently returned from Vietnam. Selfless and clear-headed, he finds a new mission back home, where traces of his father’s past lead him to a secret organization and a whole new war as a hunter.

The Winchesters hits The CW this Fall.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
