The Doctor Who Christmas special, ‘The Husband of River Song’, was the last time we will likely see River on screen. With the Singing Towers of Darillium now added to her timeline we can fill in the gaps and finally get the full story of River Song.

Given her mad timeline, Darillium is not the last time River sees the Doctor. The relationship with River and the Doctor has been a very strange one with it beginning on her death. The death of River song takes place in the second episode we see of her, as part of the two-part story of Silence in the Library and Forest of the Dead.  It is only now, thanks to her complete timeline, that her death scene gets the impact it deserves.

A recent video clip from video editor Lyndon Coleman has been released showing the death of River Song. The clip, from the Forest of the Dead, is edited and cut with many different scenes of River and the Doctors that knew her. The impact the video has now is far more heartbreaking than when it first aired back in 2008. It is a beautiful piece of work and shows how even the older episodes, once understood in context, can be so powerful even now.

My name is Jonathan Snelling. I’ve been a movie fan for a long time now and last year completed a degree in Film and Television Studies at Aberystwyth University. It’s hard to choose a favourite film but I’ve always been a major fan of Christopher Nolan’s Batman saga. I’m really interested to see how Ben Affleck does in Dawn of Justice as it's set to be an incredible film. I’m usually willing to see any genre but naturally some more so than others.
