One of the biggest things we’ve hoped for for, well forever, in the Arroverse is that John Diggle would fulfil his full potential as Green Lantern.
As far back as 2015 we were reporting that Arrow show runner Marc Guggenheim has said that there’s no possibility that Diggle will ever be revealed as John Stewart or Green Lantern.
And that was that until the Elseworlds crossover last week.
When John Wesley Shipp’s Earth 90 Flash met Diggle he asked “Hello, John. Where’s your ring?”.
And our minds went:
Because any comic fan will know that the reference to his ring is likely his Green Lantern ring which means that on Earth 90 Diggle is a Lantern! Yes!
But, the problem is Earth 90 isn’t where any of the Arrowverse shows are set, so we’ll not likely see too much of him as Lantern.
But… see him we may, nonetheless.
Arrow showrunner Beth Schwartz was talking about the reveal at a recent press screening and said: “To be continued… No, we were all really excited about that fun nod. But I’m not sure what’s to come of that, really.”
“It’s not been written yet,” Flash showrunner Todd Helbing added.
“Yeah, it’s not been written yet,” Schwartz agreed.
What does that mean? Well, with Crisis On Infinite Earths has been revealed as next year’s crossover event (we ponder what that may mean here), so we’re guessing that we’ll see the big reveal then and honestly, we can’t wait.
We love David Ramsey as Dig, we know we”’ really love him as… John Stewart? Whatever way it plays out, Green Lantern is going to the Arrowverse!
Presumably, the pair are referring to the fact that next fall’s crossover “Crisis on Infinite Earths” hasn’t been written yet as that’s the most likely place that the “Elseworlds” reference would come to life, as it’ll see The CW tackle the massive comic book event that unites the multiverse together to defeat the Anti-Monitor.
If they can get the rights to Green Lantern for the crossover, then they have to get Ramsey to play him. But at this point, it’s far too early to say if such a thing will happen.
