FEATURE: Why is Cheating Pervasive in Gaming?

August 18th, 2013 by Marc Comments

Cheating is considered as a bad thing. Your parents, teachers and so many other people have instilled this notion in you since you were a kid. Some people even consider it a type of stealing. But, when it comes to gaming, cheating is very widespread and, at times, even accepted if not totally approved of.

Online cheats for games come in different shapes and forms. It may be a walkthrough on Youtube that is supplied by people who have tried the game before you. It could be a code, which will help the player make their avatars richer (as in the case of Sims), stronger and more powerful. Some uses ‘bots’, programs which help the player accomplish tasks accurately (shooting, driving, etc).

There are also some who cheat just so they can earn actual money especially when they are playing gambling games like poker, blackjack and bingo online.
Here are some of the most common reasons why gamers and gamblers online tend to cheat when they are playing.

To Win Cash
This is the most common reason a lot of gamers opt to cheat. According to the experts on wheretoplaybingo.org, at least 30% of all the people who play regularly on various gambling and bingo sites have admitted that they cheated just so they could win at least once.
It may be very difficult to dupe casino companies since their terms, agreements and other clauses are nearly impossible to sidestep. But there are some ‘geniuses’ out there who have earned loads of cash in doing this.

They Can’t Leave a Level
This happens all the time even to the cream of the crop of game masters. People who check out walkthroughs say that it would be better to do this rather than throw the controller away in frustration or worse, stop the game completely.
Beat Your Competitors and/or the Game
There are some people who want to feel like they’re omnipresent and powerful gods who win every single time. It doesn’t happen in real life so it would be nice to feel it even on the internet.
Of course, if you have made a bet with a friend and the consequences are somewhat akin to a life and death situation, it would be oh-so nice to come out the victor there.

Because It Is Fun
Then there are some people who find the whole game totally boring without cheating. They really don’t care about that sense of ‘achievement’ when they have finished a level on their own.
As you have read above, there are several reasons that make people want to cheat on video games.

Some think that cheats are for weak gamers and opportunists. Those individuals would rather be caught dead than cheat their way to victory. But others believe that winning is the only important thing in life and, if they have to hoodwink everyone else in the process, they will.

Once you start playing, the decision of cheating and playing the game ‘honorably’ will be up to you. Generally speaking, no one has been arrested for this. But you don’t want to get barred from gaming and casino sites just because you’re branded as a cheat.

He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
