FTN’s Video Game News #7

January 26th, 2013 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

This week PlayStation 4 specs appear, classics get the HD treatment and some unsurprising news about the most played games on Xbox Live

The Legend of Zelda: Wind Walker HD coming to Wii U:

The classic GameCube game is coming to Wii U. It’s exciting to see another Zelda remake. These screenshots look great and I’m sure all you tristar fans are jumping in glee just now.

Black Ops 2 the most played Xbox game of 2012:

It was only released in November 2012 but it quickly shot up to most played Xbox game on the live market. I would say it is no surprise but technically the game only had 2 months to achieve this feat.
Just when you think Treyarch can’t pull anything else out of the bag more and more appears.

This week also saw the release of a funny trailer for the upcoming DLC ‘Revolution’ starring none other than Peter Stormare. Check it out here.

Metal Gear Rising: revengeance Trailer:

Hot on the heels of the recently released demo is a new trailer for Revengeance. I was sorely disappointed with the demo, I tried to approach it like it wasn’t a Metal Gear game but it left me bored and unamused. The trailer does look good but in the age of sandbox games this feels more like an on rails hack and slash. I feel like a lot more could be done with the concept of cyborg ninjas and Nano technology. We will have to wait and see what the actual game brings us but basing it off the demo I feel it won’t be too great.

DMC Prequel Comic:

If you are playing the game just now then a prequel comic has been released, you may want to pick it up and check out what Virgil’s backstory is before the events of the game.

PS4 Dev Kit Revealed:

So some sneaky bugger has revealed what is in the dev kit for the PS4.

Here are the specs:

Dual core AMD 64 ‘bulldozer’  processor
this is equal to 8 CPU’s

8 GB Ram

AMD R10xx GPU

4 usb 3.0 ports

2 Ethernet connections?

blu ray drive

160 gb hdd

HDMI and optical outputs.

It sounds like one powerful machine, I wouldn’t worry too much about the small HDD that’s probably just for developers I imagine when it is released it will come with a much larger HDD.
Also two Ethernet slots? Are we suddenly increasing how many come out of a router or are Sony ahead of the game somehow?

This machine is going to be powerful and will match today’s top performance PC’s. Of course PC’s will move on in spec whilst the consoles stay stagnant but we can at least expect a massive jump in graphics quality.

Let’s hope they officially announce soon.

Dragons Dogma: Dark Arisen out on Xbox 360 and PS3 April 23rd 2013:

This new disc will have the original Dragons Dogma game included along with a whole new area, several new missions and new armour.
Players who currently have a Dragons Dogma save will receive 100,000 Rift crystals, unlimited ferrystones and Gransys Armour.

Dragons Dogma was released by Capcom next year and went on to sell a million copies. It received critical acclaim as one of the best and most innovative fantasy games in a long time.
Personally I didn’t get much enjoyment out of it but some would say I am a killjoy.

Minecraft sells 9 million copies:

I know it’s crazy but mining was in last year and seems to be staying with us. Ah if only our ancestors could see us now, happily mining away and building our own houses on some server full of blocks.
In a day where graphics are key Minecraft has overcome prejudice to become one of the top selling games on Xbox Live and Steam. Shows you that you never know what will be popular.

Original Gears of War code with Gears of War: Judgement:

That’s right the beautiful people at Epic games are giving away a free copy of Gears of War with a purchase of GOW: Judgement. Apparently according to a survey over half the people who played GOW 3 had never played the first one.

Considering the game is an on-going story I wonder what those people thought was happening. Chances are they were just playing the multiplayer and didn’t care but it’s nice to see Epic giving away the original Gears, it will show newcomers what a strong legacy the game has.

First access to The Last of us Demo with God of War: Ascension:

If you are a fan of the Sony exclusive God of War series then you are in for a treat. Those who buy the game will get access to The Last of us demo early. It hasn’t been revealed how early or when the demo is due out but with a release date of May 7th we can expect it sometime in April.

GTA: Vice City released on PlayStation Store next week:

Hawaii shirts, hot beaches and a cheesy soundtrack, Vice City had it all.
If you have fond memories of Tommy and his adventure through the seedy underbelly of Vice City then I’m sure you will be salivating at the thought of getting back behind the wheel of a Lamborghini lookalike and watching the sun rise over the beach huts.
Next week Vice City will be available on the PSN store for £7.99 I wish it was an HD remake but it is just a port to the PS3. It will still be fun to play that’s for sure.

Deep Silver Acquisition Saints Row and Metro from THQ:

The most interesting news from the disbanding and auction of THQ’s assets was this purchase by Deep Silver the studio behind Dead Island.
It seems a bold and weird move by them but Saints Row is coming up to its 5th game and is a strong franchise and Metro looks to follow in its footsteps.

I just hope they keep the tongue firmly in cheek with the Saints Row games.
