The Assassin’s Creed franchise is, unquestionably, one of the most successful franchises in the video game industry.

Since 2009 and the release of Assassin’s Creed II, the series has had a new entry released every year. However, it would seem that 2016 will be the year that breaks this cycle.

According to the report, there will be no new release for the franchise this year. Instead, the team intend to take a year off to focus on the next title, which is to be set in Egypt.

Apparently this will become the norm for the franchise from this point on.

Ubisoft will instead release Watch Dogs 2 later this year. This all remains unconfirmed for the time being, so only time will tell if this is true.

Personally, this strikes me as somewhat strange. With the film coming out this year, it would seem like the ideal time to release a new game.

However, a year off may be what the franchise needs to explore new ideas for the franchise. Still, we have the film to look forward to, so that is something.
