Sam Witwer teases a planned big showdown for the cancelled Star Wars: The Force Awakens III game

One of the things that annoyed me most in Star Wars was when The Force Unleashed story was never finished.

Originally a story told in two video games, it spanned comics and novels too and now the star of the game and a major voice over artist in the Star Wars universe, Sam Witwer, talks a bit about what was to happen if we’d ever seen a third chapter in the criminally abandoned story.

For those not familiar, The Force Unleashed told the story of Galen Marek, an orphan who was taken under the wing of Darth Vader when the dark lord sensed his extraordinary Force abilities. Vader trained him to be his apprentice with the plan eventually being to overthrow Palpatine and rule the galaxy together.

However, Marek, while on a mission to find and kill Jedi, starts to see the folly of his ways and turns on Vader.

The story introduced a host of new characters as well as crossing paths with fan favourites like Yoda, Vader, Boba Fett and more and was, at the time (2008 long before Disney) dubbed The Next Chapter in the Star Wars Saga.

However, it was never resolved, with the second chapter left on a cliffhanger never to be wrapped up (although we get into it a bit why we think The Mandalorian might resolve some of the unanswered questions (here)).

But it seems that, before the plug was pulled, there was a plan for what was next and Witwer touches on it a little and teases and great and unexpected twist: “At the end of The Force Unleashed II he [Marek] cuts off Vader’s hand and captures him.

“I’m not comfortable sharing everything we discussed, but the idea was, that was the biggest mistake ever, and that Vader, like he was toying with Luke, the Force Unleashed I and II games were all about Vader toying with Starkiller. And at some point, there would be a confrontation where Starkiller’s fighting Vader, and everything that worked before suddenly isn’t working now. He’s like, ‘I cut off your hand!,’ and Vader says, ‘That wasn’t my hand. I have no hand.

Interesting he says “I’m not comfortable sharing everything we discussed” – why not? It’s ancient history by now… unless there’s more of Starkiller’s story to come?

Anyway, he goes on: “Starkiller’s fighting and Starkiller says: ‘How are you doing this?’. Vader answers simply with whatever the first line in the original Star Wars script was, which I believe was, ‘I am Lord Darth Vader, Dark Lord of the Sith.’ It was something along those lines, and that ends the conversation. He’s no match for this guy. There’s a little spoiler for an alternate universe.”

I love the idea that Vader was never so easy – well, it wasn’t THAT easy – to overthrow and was playing with Marek and waiting for his time. That’s a bet only Vader would take… everyone else should head to bonusy bez depozytu instead.

It would have taken the whole story in an exciting new direction… let’s hope Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau are looking towards this chapter of Star Wars for a possible subplot in The Mandalorian’s future.

What say you all? Let me know your thoughts, gang.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
