Ben Stiller says Severance spinoffs are in discussion

If, like me, you are completely obsessed with the world of Lumon Industries as set up in the Apple TV series Severance, then have I got good (probably) news for you… there are possibly spinoffs coming!

In a new interview with Variety, showrunner Ben Stiller and star Adam Scott sat down to talk about the mind-bending series that everyone is talking about and where else it goes, down the line, aside from season 3… like, could there be spinoffs, other shows set in this weirdly familiar, yet totally alien world.

“There are two specific ideas — that I won’t tell you — that we’ve talked about internally as possible spinoff ideas,” Stiller says.

Hmmmmmmmmm.

But could they actually happen? Have they been put before Apple? “They are nascent,” he replies – in case you don’t know, that’s a pretentious word that means they have the potential to happen.

Stiller also says that he would love to see a Severance video game – “I think it lends itself to one,” Scott agrees – and merchandise such as Lumon keyboards as long as it feels “bespoke and specific to the show”.

I can certainly spinoffs set in the Severance world, if not specifically related to the series we know and love – it’s a weird place that has, I feel, a million interesting stories to tell and, given the calibre of talent involved, they would be worth telling, fleshing out this reality.

A video game too, could be fun, but it would have to be in the style of an 80s video game, given the feel of Lumon and its technology in Severance… this could be fun, especially in a world infatuated with nostalgia and all things retro.

What do you think? Do you like Severance as a contained show? Or would you like to see the world around it fleshed out?

You have thoughts and I wanna hear ’em all…
