AMC’s upcoming supernatural thriller based on the comic book of the same name premiers its pilot episode soon, but some people have already seen the pre-aired pilot at a screening at Wondercon, which contained a joke involving the Mission Impossible star, and either he or his people have heard about it.

Seth Rogen, who is writer and producer on the show spoke to website Uproxx as part of promotion for his new movie (Bad) Neighbo(u)rs 2 during which he commented: “We might have got a call from his camp just kind of asking what the story was, I’m not sure how that wrapped itself up.”

Spoiler warning for episode details contained below…

The joke in question revolves around Preachers – beings who inhabit certain people which gives them some sort of supernatural powers. In the episode, a news report on a TV screen shows how some of these Preachers are exploding, one of the most well known people being Tom Cruise himself, and that it may be due to a mysterious force coming from space, suggesting it has something to do with religion Scientology of which Cruise is a member – we reported on it here.

It’s unclear whether this may affect the joke being included in the final airing version of the episode which is still a few weeks away and potentially could be edited or replaced in time for it airing.

Preacher stars Dominic Cooper (Agent Carter) and premiers on AMC on Sunday 22nd May. Have a look at the trailer below and let us know if you’re as excited as we are!
