Captain America 3 Could Be Ready To Swing In Some Surprises

August 28th, 2014 by Andrew McCarroll Comments

While Captain America: The Winter Soldier was not short of a few Avengers. Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow ended up being a partner alongside Chris Evans. Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) provided solid support. And there have been rumours that Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye was supposed to have a small role, but he ended up on the cutting room floor. Rumour’s have now circulated that Hawkeye might find his way into Captain America 3 when that movie reaches theatre’s in May 2016.

With Jeremy Renner recently adding fuel to the fire by hinting that he has big role to play in Captain America 3. The intrigue didn’t stop there with the Russo brother’s name checking a major Marvel event and then dropping a possible tease of a Spider-Man involvement in the Marvel Universe

“When I started collecting, The Secret Wars was one of the first books I ever bought, so that’s always been an obsession of mine to see something of that scale done – a crossover. I don’t know if that would ever be possible, with all the different situations at the studios. But I would love to see a lot of characters on screen together.”

When asked what Marvel characters could fill the Black Widow type role in Cap 3, Joe Russo said “Do they have to be under contract with Marvel? Maybe they are at another studio.”

With Spider-Man still very much a Sony property this turn seems unlikely. But with The Amazing Spider-Man 3 have its release date pulled and then pushed out to 2018 it is not outside the realms of possibility that Marvel have been working to get arguably their biggest name back into the fold.

To me personally, this sounds like classic misdirect as I think Hawkeye will bite the bullet in Age of Ultron (along with Iron Man). And as for Spider-Man swinging his way from Sony to Disney, its hard to see Sony give up their biggest franchise to a rival without a fight. Let us know what you think.

In the meantime enjoy some sweet Captain America Easter Eggs.

Now retired from slaying spooks, he spends his time obsessing over superheroes (especially Batman) and devouring shows like Dexter, Game of Thrones and Archer in a manner that would make Galactus proud.
