Deadline today reports that Splinter Cell has found a director in Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity). Tom Hardy has been attached to star since last year.
The first game, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell, was released in 2002 following the adventures of Sam Fisher, a covert operative assigned to a top-secret National Security Agency branch called the Third Echelon.
The game has had spawned several sequels.
Hardy, who’s coming off The Dark Knight Rises and Mad Max: Fury Road, will play Sam Fisher, a highly-trained special operative in a fictional black-ops sub-division, Echelon. Sam Fisher and the agents of Echelon utilize combat skills, weapons and cutting-edge gadgets to neutralize international terrorist threats and rogue forces in modern, realistic stories ripped from the headlines.
Eric Warren Singer (The International) is providing the screenplay.
