Yesterday on “Star Wars Day,” Lucasfilm debuted a new photo on their Instagram account featuring Disney Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Bob Iger and an unnamed Wookie, who clearly looks like Chewbacca to me.
It came with the note:
“Chairman’s new co-pilot. #StarWarsDay”
But whether or not it’s actually actor Peter Mayhew, or even the final look of the costume from Episode VII, is something that remains unconfirmed. Wookiees live centuries though so one might not age much visually over 30 years, Chewbacca may look nearly the same he did in Return of The Jedi.
No other information about the shot was released, but many believe that it was taken on the London set of the new movie, presumably while J.J. Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan were recording their “Star Wars Day” message.
Star Wars: Episode VII will be directed by J.J. Abrams from a script that he wrote with Lawrence Kasdan. Set to star to original cast members Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in addition to new cast members John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow.
Return to a galaxy far, far away on December 18th, 2015.
UPDATE:
Steve Sansweet uploaded the image on Facebook yesterday and wrote: In case you missed this photo from my friend Paul Bateman on May the Fourth: “First picture of the Episode 7 Chewbacca with [Disney CEO] Bob Iger at Pinewood Studios. Looks nicely OT to me – definitely not one of the publicity suits they wheel out from time to time…”
