SDCC2014: James Gunn to write and direct Guardians of the Galaxy 2!

July 26th, 2014 by Edwin Torres Jr Comments

We all know that James Gunn said he would be directing the Guardian of the Galaxy sequel if it did well. Well now his co-writer Nicole Perlman told TheWrap that he will indeed be doing so:

“James will be directing Guardians 2, so he would also be writing Guardians 2.”

Perlman explained further:

“They started to figure it out pretty quick when they started getting the reactions from the audience; it was a very positive reaction. Of course they would want to make a sequel as long as it does well and  people are excited about it, they’ll wanna do a sequel. So, it’s going to happen.”

Perlman sounded a bit less certain about her own involvement, but said she would love to work with Marvel again.

Tracking projects it will gross at least $60 million over its opening weekend, with other projections even higher. So we can most likely expect Marvel Studios to make it official during their panel on Saturday.

Guardians of the Galaxy is being directed by James Gunn from his screenplay, with a story by Nicole Perlman and Gunn. The all-star cast includes Chris Pratt as Peter Quill aka Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Karen Gillan as Nebula, two-time Academy Award nominee Djimon Hounsou as Korath, with Academy Award winner Benicio del Toro as The Collector, Academy Award nominee John C. Reilly as Rhomann Dey, and six-time Academy Award nominee Glenn Close as Nova Prime.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is set for August 1st, 2014.
