Thomas Kretschmann talks Baron von Strucker, confirms multiple picture deal

March 2nd, 2014 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

One of the new additions to Joss Whedon’s upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron is German actor Thomas Kretschmann as the villain Baron von Strucker, a high-ranking member of Hydra. Strucker’s exact involvement in the sequel is still unknown, but it seems he will be behind the appearance of Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. One thing is known, apparently it won’t be Kretschmann’s only appearance as the Baron.

In an interview with B.Z. Berlin (via CBM), Kretschmann confirmed that he has signed on for multiple appearances as the villain:

“I have a multi-picture deal which means I will not only appear in the 2nd part, but they’re planning with me for a longer period of time. But I don’t know details yet, they’re keeping their cards close to their chest – top secret!”

Kretschmann went on to admit he was nervous about being in such a huge film:

“Oh yes, I was nervous. I was over prepared; then on the set I went up to Joss Whedon, who passes for a genius, and said ‘this is my first day, this is huge, please have patience with me, I’m a bit nervous.’”

The interesting part is principal photography on the film won’t start until later this month, yet Kretschmann mentioned speaking with director Joss Whedon on the set.

Is it possible that he’ll be appearing in something before Avengers: Age of Ultron?  Maybe in a credits scene?

Avengers: Age of Ultron stars Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch, Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Quicksilver, James Spader as Ultron, Thomas Kretschmann as Baron Strucker, and Paul Bettany as The Vision.

Avengers: Age of Ultron is set for release on May 1, 2015
