WATCH: Teaser for Black and white version of Zack Snyder’s Justice League arrives… Justice is Grey

March 23rd, 2021 by Marc Comments

There’s no question that Zack Snyder’s Justice League has been a bit hit for HBO Max and the DC universe in general… but we’ve not seen the last of it yet.

But first, let’s go back a bit to the first teaser for the release that featured the return of Jared Leto’s Joker and a line that, while stirring up a lot of excitement online, ultimately didn’t appear in the movie when it debuted last Thursday:

“We live in a society…” drove the internet wild as it’s based on a popular Joker meme and having Leto say it was a clever move… even though some loved it and many hated it. But it certainly helped to raise the profile of the movie.

However, surprisingly, as I said above, the line didn’t appear in the movie… at least, not yet.

“We went back and forth with it,” says Snyder, “and I’ll give Jared credit for that little ad-lib there, because it was really, really beautiful.”

However, it seems that the scene will appear in a new charity version of the movie set for HBO Max in the near future.

Dubbed Justice Is Grey, the new version will be entirely black and white and will raise money  in support of suicide prevention via the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention in honour of Snyder’s daughter, Autumn, who died during production of the film.

However, as well as being black and white, the movie may be a very slightly different cut than the one we saw last week.

“There was a version [with the ‘we live in a society’ line] as what I was trying to do was a second [ending] for the black-and-white version, for the charity version of the movie. I wanted to… there’s a second ending of the movie, of the Jared Leto scene, just slightly different. I included that line.”

It sounds like Snyder has given a lot of thought to this version of Joker, a broken version of the man we first met (in this world) in Suicide Squad: “I also did very much like the broken, the tricked, the vulnerable Joker that you see in the movie. And so it’s a trade-off of not getting the vulnerable Joker, you get the line and one other idea, which is cool, and I like it.”#

We’re wondering if there will be more additional/different dialogue or if this is all there’s going to be… either way, this is just another reason to watch the movie and we’ll be there first night.
