When Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, created Death Note you have to wonder if they had any inclination it would be so popular, not just in Japan but the rest of the world also.

Actress Margret Qualley (below) is set to star in Disney’s version of Death Note, alongside Nat Wolff. The new live action film will be directed by Adamn Wingard. The film will base itself around the 13 volume Manga series that ran from 2003 – 2006.

The story is as follows: “Light Yagami, a genius high school student who discovers a supernatural notebook that gives the owner the power to kill someone simply by writing their name within its pages. Light sets out to cleanse the world of evil, which puts him on a collision course with the enigmatic detective L.”

Although it’s not fully known yet, we can confidently speculate that Qualley will play Misa Amane, a model who seeks out light to help him in his cause.

Death Note has been seen before on the big screen but only in Japan. It also gained a very popular Anime series from 2006 – 2007,  that is still considered one of the best anime series made.

The film is still in the production and pre-production stages so although we don’t have a release date we can expect more information will be on its way soon.
