Both Evil Dead series set for a crossover? Bruce Campbell says so…

Ok, so with the new Evil Dead reboot hitting cinemas this Friday and Raimi talking about making a sequel to The Army of Darkness, it looks like we are soon to be knee-deep in deadites. Groovy.

Yes, with the new movie getting fantastic early reviews if you like your horror nasty and tastless – who doesn’t? – and the original trilogy still among our favourite trilogies – Wars, Back To The Future, Indy – what fourth movie? – we’re really excited to see the return of Ash, Bruce Campbell, for a fourth deadite slaying adventure.

Buuuuuut…. how can these two franchises exist together? Well, according to aintitcool, Fede Alvarez, director of the new reboot, has a clear vision in his head which Bruce Campbell shared at Wondercon: ‘He’d like to make a sequel to this one while Sam Raimi moves forward with Army of Darkness 2. Then, both worlds would combine for a final, seventh film. I think seven is a nice number.’

We kind of love this idea too. Does it mean the new series will have to get more ‘comedy’ as they move on? We’re not sure, but whatever happens – and this is all just here-say at the minute – we love the notion.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
