Brandon Routh thinks his Superman could appear in The Flash movie

November 4th, 2020 by Marc Comments

We all know that the upcoming The Flash movie will feature cameos from around the DC universe with Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck both set to return as different versions of Batman (here) and we’ve been hearing all sorts of mad rumours about others that could appear, with Nicholas Cage’s Superman from the canceled Death of Superman movie (here) being among the most recent.

However, fans will know that this isn’t the first time something like this was tried by DC with last year’s Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover on The CW’s Arrowverse shows bringing together stars and characters from all over the DC universe’s comics, cartoons, movies and TV shows.

One of these was Brando Routh – who actually also starred in the Arrowverse show Legends of Tomorrow as Ray Palmer/The Atom – who came back as Superman.

Routh played Superman in Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns in 2006 in which he played the Clark Kent/Superman originally portrayed by Christopher Reeve in the original Superman movies and he returned as that Superman, although when we met him here it was a darker version of Superman more akin to the Kingdom Come version of the character from the comics.

And now Routh has been talking about whether or not we could see him back for The Flash movie – oh, Ezra Miller, who plays Flash in the current DC movies appeared in the Crisis crossover too, so it’s far from out of the question.

“Can we? I mean yeah I think that’s always a possibility,” Routh said.

“Of course, they’re bringing in Michael Keaton, which I’m excited about, and some other people from the past DC projects. I think it’s very exciting – it worked really well in “Crisis On Infinite Earths,” and I was extremely proud and honored to be a part of it and to reprise my Superman. So it’s absolutely a possibility – you can do anything! Everybody lives and dies all the time in those things.”

Given what we know and what we’ve already seen, I’d imagine it’s very likely Routh will appear even just briefly in the movie and, with the persistent rumours that he’s getting his own limited series on HBO Max based on the Kingdom Come Superman (here), I have a feeling we’ve seen far from the last of Routh in the blue, red and yellow, especially since we’re also hearing Keaton’s appearance could lead to him leading a new Batman series on the streamer.

What do you all think? Is it likely? Would you want to see it? Let me know…

The Flash is currently set to speed in to cinemas on November 4th, 2022.
