Could Boba Fett appear in the new Star Wars trilogy?

July 20th, 2014 by Marc Comments

Could we possibly be seeing the most infamous bounty hunter to reside in a galaxy far, far away in the new Star Wars trilogy? Many of us long time Expanded Universe fans know that Fett escaping the Sarlacc was old news, and in fact the character had been well fleshed out in novels and comics throughout the years. However we all thought Fett’s resurrection would be reversed with the recent announcement that the EU was no longer canon. Now it seems that hope has once again been restored to the galaxy.

According to an article from Star Wars Underworld, author of the ‘making of’ series Jonathan Rinzler, recently hosted a Reddit in which he asked about Boba Fett. Reddit user Blackbetha asked Rinzler, “Jonathan, in your mind does Boba Fett escape Sarlacc pit?”

His response was something I was not prepared for,”Yes, he does. I have been in meetings with George where he confirms that Fett survived. If it comes from George then it’s true!”

We all know about the stand alone movie, but could this very well mean that an older Fett will still be roaming the stars and cashing in on bounties during the time period that the new trilogy will take place in? It seems as though Lucas understands the popularity of the character, and has decided to leave him on the table for Abrams. Of course, on the other hand, Disney could have very well come to the conclusion that Boba Fett equals dollars and asked Lucas to make that call. Either way, this is great news for Boba Fett fans.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
