D23 poster hints at Andrew Garfield’s Spider-man returning, Book of Boba Fett season 2 and much more

For fans of Disney and all that goes with it, next week is a big week as on Sept 9-11th the Anaheim Convention Centre in California will play host to D23 2022, the massive Expo that is basically Disney’s own SDCC.

This year’s poster for the event has been revealed and it is full of cool little nods to Disney’s biggest IPs and may well be teasing some of the big reveals we’re likely to get over the weekend of events.

The poster has many elements but one of the ones that got our attention was, lower left, in one of the castle windows we can see Spider-man. But he’s not just any Spider-man, he’s Andrew Garfield’s Spidey as seen in the Amazing Spider-man movies and, most recently, Spider-man: No Way Home.

How do we know? Well, not only is this the spidey that we saw in some of the Amazing Spider-man 2 promotional artwork, but it’s easily identifiable from the Spider logo on his chest which has the extra long lower legs which set it apart from other versions of the logo:

Now, there’s no doubt this might just be a picture of Spider-man to represent the comics, movies etc in general but let’s not forget that there’s been lots of rumours of Garfield getting his third movie after the success of No Way Home (here) and there’s also been rumours he’ll appear in the upcoming Secret Wars MCU event. The only possible stumbling block is that Spider-man is still owned by Sony but we are very intrigued as to why THIS particular version appears on the official poster.

There’s loads of fun things to fin on the poster as well as Spidey, including Grogu and the N1 Starfighter, a nod to The Mandalorian Season 3, no doubt. for Star Wars fans, there’s also Andor’s logo and, interestingly, the Slave 1 appears… is this setting up a Book of Baba Fett season 2 announcement like we saw here?

Other fun stuff:

Ahsoka’s Fulcrum Symbol from Star Wars: Rebels, which is likely a nod to the upcoming Ahsoka series.

The Black Panther logo, an obvious nod to Wakanda Forever, the Black Panther sequel coming later this year.

Captain America’s Shield and a donut from The Simpsons in the top corners – speak for themselves, really.

There’s a Nova Corps Ship from the comics… is there news of the much-rumoured Nova series coming? Or is it a nod to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3?

Indiana Jones is in there too – is it likely we’re going to finally get some real details on the fifth Indy movie?

Mind you, there’s also some stuff on there like Wall-E, Aladdin, Luca and others that we’re not expecting to hear anything about, so we might be over analysing this all.

What are you hoping to see or hear about at D23? Let us know in all the usual ways, gang…

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
