A fun little Easter egg has been found by Reddit user Prestigious_Judge636 which links the Pacific Rim and Monsterverse franchises in a fun way.
Taking to R/Monsterverse, the user wrote: “Godzilla x Kong’s Project Powerhouse blueprints seen in the movie have been found and, uhh… A Jaeger?”
In the most recent Monsterverse movie, Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire, Project Powerhouse was Monarch’s abandoned project to create an exoskeleton for Kong; in-universe it was supposed to help Kong should he ever face an enemy like Godzilla again so that he can save Earth. The original plans were to use parts salvaged from Mechagodzilla, While the project was cancelled, a glove, called the BEAST Glove, was made and then stored. It comes in useful in the movie when Kong gets his arm broken and needs to fight Skar King.
So, what’s the cool easter egg? Well… check out the blueprints glimpsed in the movie:

Yes, it looks like the original plan was to have a giant mech in the Monsterverse called Jaeger 312, and Pacific Rim fans will tell you that in that franchise, the giant mech suits used to fight Kaiju coming through an interdimensional rift at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean, called the Breach, feature mechs called Jaegers (check out the blueprint on the left).
This is, obviously, a fun nod to another franchise, but it’s likely also an homage to the fact that, once upon a time, the two franchises almost did crossover.
Back in 2017, Pacific Rim: Uprising director Steven S DeKnight revealed that there were more plans for the franchise, including meeting Godzilla and/or Kong: “I won’t say there’s an Easter Egg [in Uprising] but there’s been a lot of discussion about that possibility [of crossing over],” he said at the time.
Pacific Rim crossover with Godzilla and King Kong? It could happen…
“I think it would be fantastic to have the Pacific Rim universe join Legendary’s Monster Universe, it seems like a natural step. And part of the big overall plan after the third movie we’ve talked about is that could happen, it’s always a possibility. It’s by far not a certainty; it’s merely theoretical at this point, but as a fan myself I would love to see that happen.”
Now, obviously, the Monsterverse has continued to grow – we recently learned that Jurassic Park and The Omen star Sam Neill is to appear in the next movie – and the Pacific Rim franchise sadly didn’t continue too far after the second movie, so this in unlikely to happen now, but with the Monsterverse recently crossing over with the Justice League in a more fun than this should have been comic book series, anything could happen.
