‘FOX would love another go at Fantastic Four,’ says producer Simon Kinberg

Ok, look, Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four movie was not as bad as we were expecting, ok? Was it good? No! But there was some stuff to like in there… don’t ask me what as none come to mind right now, but I remember thinking that to myself after watching it and I wouldn’t lie to myself. Would I???

Anyway, so, fact is, the movie bombed at the box office and, despite FOX hoping for an X-Men sized franchise to come from it, it pretty much disappeared without anyone noticing it was gone… but writer and producer Simon Kinberg spoke with Collider while doing the press circuit for Logan (read our review here) and was quite chatty about Fantastic Four and made one thing clear… they will not let it just die.

In fact, it’s seems, reading between the lines, that FOX would like another stab at it and with the same cast; could Fantastic Four get a sequel?!

More importantly, does anyone want one and does it deserve one!?

Anyway, here’s what he said about the movie and the chance of a sequel: “For us, it’s in the past in the sense of lessons learned and we would love to make another Fantastic Four movie. We really believe in that cast, and I think the lessons that we learned would help us make a more consistent movie than we did the first time.”

We have to agree that Kate Mara, Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Bell were all pretty solid in the movie and its flaws didn’t really lie at their door… but the studio is prepared to be patient and bring the foursome back when the time is right.

We’re not necessarily holding out for it starring these four though: “I think the truth is we would not make another Fantastic Four movie until it was ready to be made. One of the lessons we learned on that movie is that we want to make sure we get it 100% right, because we will not get another chance with the fans.”

So we reckon that the chances of us seeing another Fantastic Four movie anytime soon is very slim and the chances of it starring those young actors again is even slimmer, given that hey all have moved on to other projects and paths.

But, hypothetically, would you like to see them back for a sequel or would you rather they just start again in a year or two? Or, and we reckon this is most likely, would you rather just see the rights revert to Marvel and get them in the MCU?

Let us know what you all think…

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
