Guillermo Del Toro: “Constantine could crossover with my DC movie”

August 11th, 2014 by Marc Comments

DC may be getting abuse from fans – or rather Marvel fans – in the movie department, but it’s hard to argue with what they are doing on the small screen.

With Arrow, The Flash, Constantine and Gotham all set to return/start in the next few weeks, the only question is what exactly is the relationship, if any, between them and the cinematic universe. Well, we’ve been told that, aside from The Flash and Arrow, there’s no relationships.

Well, enter Guillermo Del Toro. Del Toro has been talking up his Justice League Dark movie for a while now (here) – a team made of of DC’s more supernatural characters: Etrigan The Demon, Swamp Thing, Zatanna, The Floronic Man, Shade and… it’s led by John Constantine.

The same Constantine who is played by Matt Ryan and has his own series kicking off in October. Surely this would mean that there would be two incarnations of the character?

Well, not necessarily.

Speaking to IGN, Del Toro said that: “I would love to have The Spectre in it, because he’s one of the most..absolutely, beyond moral characters in this universe and he does crazy things…but, I’m happy with…they’re doing that with ‘Constantine.’ What I made clear to them is that the TV series will not affect the movie and they said that’s okay. They said you can have independence. Now, if we see the TV series and we can mesh with it or cast the same actor depending on where the movie is going, I would be happy to consider that.”

So, what do you think? Will worlds collide or, as Geoff Johns said, will the TV and movie universes stay exclusive? Come on DC, it’s time these worlds collided we say.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
