Henry Cavill teases Black Adam clash again and is Superman set for a bigger role in the DCEU moving forward?

Not for the first time, Superman star, Henry Cavill, has teased a fight between the Man of Steel and Black Adam, set to be played by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson in the future of the DC Cinematic Universe.

In a new interview (below) Cavill discusses the possibility of the two characters facing off in the movies – Adam is traditionally a  Shazam! villain – and it seems that yes, it’s likely to happen: “There’s a lot of things spinning around in the universe right now with that.

“Obviously if Black Adam does become a character officially, [Johnson] will play him [but] I’m pretty sure it’ll be a Shazam/Black Adam thing first,” Cavill said, “If it does happen, it would make sense that way.”

Zachary Levi is currently filming the Shazam! movie in the title role for a release next April

Teasingly, Cavill also hinted: “But you never know, maybe there will be a Superman movie and Shazam will come and help. That’s kind of stealing his limelight, though, which is not cool.”

This all comes on top of new rumours that Cavill, who only has one more contracted appearance as Superman in the Warner Bros movies, is in talk to extend his contract to multi-pictures, with the idea being he would appear in several DC properties, bringing the movie universe together. We speculated before that, you may recall, when at the end of Justice League it was hinted at the League becoming a much larger affair, we may see Superman bringing heroes together to join the team.

But apparently Cavill is still hoping to see Man of Steel 2 happen, with news being that Zack Snyder’s original plan for Man of Steel, Batman V Superman and Justice League was actually a five-picture arc but Warners pulled it back – we have known since BvS’s release that Justice League was originally set to be a part 1/part 2 affair.

This is added to by the news that Zack Snyder was working on Batman V Superman before Man of Steel was even released in 2013, despite many believing the frosty reception to MoS provoked Warners to push a Batman movie into production; no som says Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox director, Jay Olivia:

So could Warners now be looking to move closer to the original vision of Snyder after the disaster that was Justice League?

“I’m having a lot of conversations, behind-the-scenes, with certain people and we will hopefully be having conversations with other people who are also behind-the-scenes to make things start happening,” Cavill says, “It is very much in my desire to do a Man of Steel 2, a direct sequel to Man of Steel, and there is a whole bunch of Superman story that I want to tell. There is a whole style of Superman’s character that I’m very keen to tell and I’m looking forward to the opportunity.”

Looks like there’s a lot of wheels in motion over at Warner/DC and the Man of Steel is at the centre of it. Which is just fine with us.

Let us know your thoughts, guys.

Shazam! opens April 5, 2019.
