Is Angelina Jolie eyeing up The Bride of Frankenstein in the Universal shared monster universe?

It’s alive, It’s alive… The trend of remakes that is. Anyway, it seems that Universal is going to attempt a remake of the Bride of Frankenstein (see what I did there at the start?).

For those who are unaware, Universal is attempting to create a shared film universe, a la the Marvel Cinematic universe. They intend to build this interconnected world around the famous monsters that they own the rights to – remember earlier we reported on the news that Tom Cruise may be in talks for The Mummy remake?

The big announcement with this remake is that Angelina Jolie will purportedly star in the film as the titular monster. Despite all this though, there has been no confirmation whether or not this will be part of the shared universe. However, it is a relatively sure bet at this point in time.

Personally, this is one of the films that I would actually be OK seeing a remake of. While Bride of Frankenstein is, unquestionably, a classic, it has been the better part of a century since the original was made. As such, there are a large number of people who will never have seen the original and, as such, a remake makes sense.

I also like the idea of casting Jolie in the lead role. Throughout her years in the industry, she has gathered quite an eclectic filmography, so it will be interesting to see how she would do in the gothic horror genre.

There is one thing that leaves me confused though; Bride of Frankenstein is the sequel to Frankenstein, so where is the word on the remake of that film? If this film is to be part of a shared universe, it would make sense to introduce The Frankenstein monster first. Still there’s plenty of time between then and now, in the mean time, pull the switch… to start the production…

That was reaching, I apologise.
