So, unless you were living under a nerd-proof rock for the last few weeks, you’ll know that there is talk of star Jeffrey Dean Morgan returning as Bruce Wayne’s father, Thomas Wayne (here).
However, it would be a different version of Thomas, changed by the events of The Flash movie from writer/director Andy Muschietti, which would see time altered and young Bruce dying on that fateful night with his father swearing vengeance and becoming Batman instead (see below).
This was very exciting news for several reasons, the main ones being that Morgan is a seriously cool dude and secondly, that Flashpoint Batman is a seriously cool character.
However, around the same time the news broke that Micheal Keaton was in talks to return as Batman – a role he last played for Tim Burton in 1992 – and this too got the fandom very excited (here).
Christian Bale entered the rumour-mill too shortly after (here).
However, soon after, bad new broke when it seemed that Morgan would be cast as Batman ONLY is Keaton couldn’t or wouldn’t return.
This was bittersweet news, indeed.
Now, however, Morgan has spoken about the turn of events and not only seems to confirm Keaton’s return, but also doesn’t rule himself out… yet.
“Michael Keaton swooped in and took my gig,” says Morgan in good spirits.
“Naw, I think that’s super cool. Ever since Zack Snyder walked away, my whole kind of bit in that world has walked away with him. However, there’s always a chat going on. So, we’ll see!”
Given how tuned-in Warner Bros seems to be recently with the fans and what they want, I wouldn’t dismiss that ‘we’ll see’.
Given that Zack Snyder is finally releasing his version of Justice League and that rumours abound that Henry Cavill and Ray Fisher are set to reprise their roles as Superman and Cyborg in the near future, I believe we no-longer live in a world where ‘Zack Snyder walked away’ but rather a world where Zack Snyder walked back again.
Let’s hope that means that either in The Flash movie or because of it, we’ll see Morgan put on the cape and cowl in the not too-distant future.
Let me hear your thoughts, gang.
The Flash is aiming for a July 1st, 2022 release date.
