It’s no secret that Batman V Superman star Jeffrey Dean Morgan wants to return to the role of Thomas Wayne in the Flashpoint story which is likely to be the plot of The Flash movie.
And why wouldn’t he? In the Flashpoint story when The Flash alters time it transpires that it is no longer Bruce Wayne’s parents who are murdered, but rather Bruce himself and, as a result, his parents deal with his death in very different ways – his mother has a complete breakdown and becomes The Joker, while his father becomes… Batman.
Funnily enough, exactly four years to the day (here) – and many times since – we reported that Morgan REALLY wanted to become that version of Batman, I mean… just look at how awesome he is:

Now a new report has it that Morgan is actually in talks for the gig right now!
Now, on top of the news that Ray Fisher will be back in Andy Muschietti’s The Flash movie as Cyborg (here), it looks like DC/Warners are fully embracing the DC universe that Zack Snyder began once more and that’s great news!
Given that in 2019 Muschietti said of the movie: “What captivated me about The Flash is the human drama in it.
“The human feelings and emotions that play in the drama [of it]. It’s going to be fun, too. I can’t promise that there will be any horror [elements in it], really, but it’s a beautiful human story.”
What could be a more human story than a man who changes all reality to save his murdered mother?
Adding to this rumour, Grace Randolph – who is often on the money about these things – confirms that Jeffrey Dean Morgan is “circling” the Thomas Wayne role.
Could this be what Morgan was hinting at with this tweet about the return of masks in 2020? And yes, I know that’s The Comedian’s mask from Watchmen:
Gus found the comedian mask. Still fits like a glove. And looks extra extra with my badass bifocals. Here’s to a masked comeback in 2020. pic.twitter.com/Df7WHuaNnN

Randolph also confirms that Ray Fisher is indeed back as Cyborg along with Billy Crudup as Flash’s father and that they’re looking to cast a new actress as Barry’s mother.
However, she also says that – at least as of yet – there is no plan to bring back Lauren Cohen as Martha Wayne or Joker as she’d be in this story.
Whatever happens, it certainly seems like Warners have finally got their act together and are bringing us a Flashpoint movie… and let’s remember that waaaaaaay back in 2017 (here) it was hinted that a Flashpoint movie would be used to explain the casting of a new Batman (and we now have Robert Pattinson in the role) so I’m wondering if this is still the plan?
Hopefully we’ll have our answers to this and much more when The Flash zooms into cinemas on June 3rd, 2022.
