Mark Strong in line for Shazam! villain? Stranger Things star aims for lead role? And Black Adam movie gets writer

Since it was announced last week that the lead had been cast for the Shazam! movie in the form of FTN favourite Zachary Levi, star of Chuck, we’ve been wanting for other news on the movie.

And now we have some.

Firstly, it seems that Annabelle: Creation star Grace Fulton, 21, is in line to star was one of Billy Batson’s (more on him in a minute) teenage friends – that’s all we know for now on that bit of casting, however, the next bit should raise a few eyebrows.

It seems that Kingsman: The Secret Service, Green Lantern and Kick-ass star Mark Strong is in talks to star as Shazam’s arch-enemy Doctor Sivana: In the most recent run of DC Comics’ the New 52 books, that “Shazam” is loosely based on, Sivana is depicted as a respected scientist desperate to save his family from an unknown plight. With science having failed him, he turns to magic. Doctor Sivana’s team finds what he believes to be the tomb of Black Adam; while attempting to open it, the scientist is half-blinded by magical lightning to the face (which has the side-effect of letting him see magic).

This would be a great bit of casting as Strong is a cracking actor and can bring gravity to any role he’s given.

In related news, it looks like one of Stranger Things’ stars could be aiming for the role of Billy Batson, the kid who becomes a superhero when he utters the magic word ‘Shazam!’.

So, treat this as speculation for now, but here we go.

Young actor Noah Schnapp who plays Will Byers in Stranger Things has been spotted on Twitter following Shazam! director David F Sandberg and Warner Bros, as well as liking some of Sandberg’s Shazam! related posts:

Adding to this, it seems that Grace Fulton, who we mentioned above, also recently followed Sandberg, giving fans more reason to think there could be smoke AND fire to be found in the Schnapp rumour. For the record, after seeing his performance in Season 2 of Stranger Things we say give him the role immediately.

And, in other related news, we also know that Dwayne’The Rock’ Johnson will be playing Shazam! villain Black Adam in a standalone movie (or maybe two) before the two meet on screen.

And now it looks like a writer is in place for the first movie.

Undateable creator and Due Date, We’re the Millers 2 writer Adam Sztykiel is reportedly in talks to write Black Adam. This definitely points towards the lighter tone that DC seem to be intent on heading towards in its upcoming movies.

The Rock has recently teased that we will see Black Adam before his movie or the Shazam! movie, so we’re expecting to see him teased in Aquaman next year while some even think we may see him in Justice League which arrives in less that a fortnight as he has teased on several occasions that Adam and Superman will have a meeting on screen (here).

So big news for the world of Shazam! and Black Adam as the DC/Warners cinematic universe heads towards a brighter future.
