Jason Statham stars in a lot of movies, most of which revolve around him beating the holy hell out of anything that stands in front of him. But hang on a sec there, Jason, you’re about to come up against your biggest enemy yet: a giant prehistoric shark.

Yes, Statham has signed on to star in the long-gestating shark adventure thriller Meg (no, not that annoying daughter from Family Guy although we wouldn’t mind Statham laying the smackdown on here).

According to The Hollywood Reporter (via Squareeyed), Statham will star in the monster movie, which is to be directed by Jon Turteltaub, best known for the National Treasure films. The film, based on the 1997 novel Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror focuses on the misadventures of Jonas Taylor, a Navy deep sea diver (which will suit the former Olympic diver Statham down to the ground, we would suspect).

Meg has been in production for years, bouncing between studios and seeing directors like Guillermo del Toro and Jan De Bont coming and going.

Now it’s finally being made and, we’re not going to lie, we’re kind of excited…
