If, like us here at FTN HQ, you love the Scream franchise and the latest instalment sets in a direction you’re excited for, then we have cool news for you all tonight.
We reported last month that Courtney Cox was returning for the next movie, Scream 6, and Neve Campbell, while not signed on yet, is keen to come back once more (here) and now we have more confirmed returning faces to the series.
Fans of the latest movie, Scream 2022, will know that Melissa Barrera (Sam), Jasmin Savoy Brown (Mindy), Mason Gooding (Chad) and Jenna Ortega (Tara)’s characters all made it out to fight another day and now we know that they will have to do just that when the next movie begins filming in the next couple of months.
Ortega and Barrera are sisters Tara and Sam Carpenter in the series and, more importantly, Sam is the daughter of original Scream killer Billy Loomis, played by Skeet Ulrich, who also played a role in the last movie. On top of this, Gooding and Brown are twins Chad and Mindy Meeks and they too have a big connection to the series as the daughter of Mandy Meeks, the sister of Jamie Kennedy’s original nerd, Randy Meeks in the first two movies, so it’s likely this movie will once again have a big connection to what has gone before.

Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are back behind the camera, and James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick co-writing the screenplay, all returning after bringing the series back earlier this year.
As for the plot? Well, nothing is known at this stage but the retuning survivors has me thinking that I love the idea of bringing back Hayden Panettiere’s Kirby from Scream 4 (here) and having a story that would see a Ghostface Killer coming for survivors of previous killing sprees. I think there could be a lot of fun to be had with that one.
That said, the original plot for Scream 5 and 6, which was written by original Scream series writer Kevin Williamson before the death of franchise director Wes Craven, sounded like a lot of fun (here) and could really see the franchise go in a new director and I don’t think it would be too difficult to repurpose it to fit around the new cast and series’ direction.
Anyway are you excited to see the new young cast back for a new Scream? Let me know all your thoughts, gang…
