Michelle Pfeiffer wants to return as Selina Kyle/Catwoman for The Flash

January 31st, 2021 by Marc Comments

We here at FTB Towers are very, very excited about the news that the upcoming Flash movie will see the titular DC hero traveling realties and meeting characters from different corners of the DC universe.

And, of course, we must point out that this has already been set up by last year’s Arrowverse crossover (we’ll get to that in a minute) which brought together parts of the DC worlds that we never thought we would see – from the movies, to the animated world, we saw all the DC realities collide and nod to each other in ways that, while a bit ham-fisted in places, were very, very exciting for fans.

And of course, this is set to continue in The Flash with Michael Keaton returning as Bruce Wayne/Batman, reprising the role from 1989’s Batman and 1992’s Batman Returns.

Obviously, this led to much speculation about who else we might see returning, with rumours bouncing around that Danny DeVito was set to return (how? He died in Batman Returns) and we ourselves speculating that having Billy Dee Williams back in a Two-Face/Harvey Dent cameo would be something special and at least something close to the ending he deserved in the role that he played in the ’89 movie.

But one person we’re all hoping will return is Michelle Pfeiffer as Selina Kyle/Catwoman.

Her take on the character in Batman Return was the most iconic version of the character – with her nailing it so well that the very idea of someone else playing the character almost feels redundant –  sorry, Zoe Kravtiz… but we do wish her the best.

But will she return?

“I would if anyone asked me… but no one’s asked me yet,” Pfeiffer has said in a new interview.

Now, the character has, technically, already re-appeared in the wider DC universe… sort of.

When we were covering all the exciting news about the Crisis On Infinite Earths events a while back (here) we stumbled across a very cool Easter Egg which, as far as we can tell, didn’t appear in the final show… a newspaper revealing that, in the world of Tim Burton’s Batman, Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle ultimately married:

In the end, the only connection we actually saw to the Burton movies in the crossover was the appearance of Robert Wuhl as Alexander Knox, the journalist from the first movie (here) but there’s no arguing with the notion that Selina Kyle is likely a big part of Batman’s life after the movies and before Keaton’s upcoming reappearance in the role.

“As a young girl, I was completely obsessed with Catwoman,” Pfeiffer said in a 2017 interview with  The Hollywood Reporter.

“When I heard that [Batman Returns director] Tim [Burton] was making the film and Catwoman had already been cast, I was devastated. At the time, it was Annette Bening. Then she became pregnant. The rest is history. I remember telling Tim halfway through the script that I’d do the film, that’s how excited I was.”

So, what say you all?

Would you all be excited to see Michelle Pfeiffer back in the role? Or do you think they may establish that her and Bruce didn’t have a happy ending in that universe? Perhaps she died, leaving a bitter Batman behind, exacting vengeance on Gotham? Or maybe she left him for some reason…

Let me hear your thoughts, gang…

The Flash is expected to debut on November 4th, 2022.
