National Treasure 3 could still be a thing?

I have to admit, few pieces of news genuinely surprise me… this one did. It has been many years since the National Treasure films. To be honest, while they were not overly liked at the time, I found them to be quite charming adventure films. They weren’t spectacular, but they were harmless popcorn entertainment.

However, I had assumed long ago that the franchise was dead and buried… And yet, never say never ladies and gentlemen. It seems that even after all these years; National Treasure 3 is still being developed.

In a recent interview, the head of Disney, Bob Iger, stated: “We have done two, and yes they were really fine movies. I know Jerry Bruckheimer who produced them has had conversations with our studio a number of times about it, and there have been some developments along the way, but as of right now we have not green-lit as we say, a National Treasure 3. But I do know there is time and some resources spent on development. That’s all I can tell ya.”

All in all, it does not sound like they are getting ready to start rolling, but the fact that the film is still in development seems quite strange to me. If this film did come out, would there even still be a market for the franchise. Still, we know nothing about it at the moment, so I will reserve judgment until we have more news.
