New actor likely for The Batman role… but there is a good reason

June 26th, 2018 by Marc Comments

It looks like The Batman may walk a tightrope between two worlds…

As we reported before, it looks like the new movie, from Planet of the Apes’ Matt Reeves, will feature a recast Batman/Bruce Wayne, but not simply because Ben Affleck wants out, but because they are going to start storytelling in different time… ie Batman will be much younger and earlier in his career (“20 years in Gotham, how many good men are left? How many stayed that way?).

According to ElFanboy,  the plan is to make a new Batman with the idea being that, should the DC Cinematic Universe get back on track (we’re not even getting into this) then this Batman will still be part of that world, but should the other movies fail to keep the franchise alive, they have a Batman that can continue on his one.

Clever… but cynical:

“So essentially, they want to develop this Batman movie as if it is a reboot, as if it’s all new. But they’re not gonna make any overt statements about it, they’re just gonna make a movie about a younger Batman, who – I believe it takes place in the past, which will create a backdoor for if they ever do want to cross-pollinate him with the other DC characters again.

“They’re going to make Batman as his own standalone franchise, they’re gonna basically start him over again to a degree, but they’re going to leave a back door open so that, depending on how the next few DC movies do, from there, they can decide which continuity he’s a part of and whether or not they’re gonna push forward on the shared concept and do more crossover movies.”

So what say you all? Is this a good idea? Honestly, we’re excited to se Affleck’s Batman at a younger, more optimistic point in his career (albeit with a new face).

What about you guys? Let us know…

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
