With the Transformers movie Franchise currently in the midst of a massive overhaul courtesy of an impressive new movie think tank, we’re waiting with baited breath to see when the story will begin.

Is this the first step?

A new rumour is floating around that the franchise will restart (not reboot) with Michael Bay once again in the director’s chair (sigh), focusing on Ultra Magnus, the ‘bot who almost was Prime.

Now, some sources are reporting Magnus is Optimus Prime’s brother… presumably this comes from the Dreamwave comics which referred to him as a brother (in arms) because the toy was a repainted Optimus Prime, but I ‘m assured by our resident TF expert, Gareth, that he is not related to Optimus. But he still may be the focus of the new movie.

Magnus has been rumoured as part of the movie universe as far back as the second movie; he would certainly be a fitting replacement for Prime who may not appear in the fifth movie as he’s still off in space (remember the end of the last movie? No? Well, he’s in space for some reason).

Other rumours have it that, not only will Mark Wahlberg return (sigh. Again), but we may also see Megan Fox and Shia Labeouf back too.

Other rumours are that the Quintessons may appear; while this may just be rumoured fan service, this would make sense given that the last movie rather ham-fistedly set up an exploration of the origins of the Transfomers and Cybertron and, in the original story, the Quintessons were a BIG part of that.

What do you think? A movie featuring the stars of all the previous movies, directed by the same director, focusing on Ultra Magnus and the creation of the Transformers? We’re cool with half of this. Guess which half…

TF5 is due in 2017

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
