With the success of Black Panther and Into The Spider-verse to name a few, it’s time to bring back arguably the original black crimefighter who set the ground rules for decades to come.
Yes, John Shaft is coming back. Shut your mouth!
Yes, it’s a full-on revival for the iconic character as the original Shaft, Richard Roundtree, who first played the character in 1971, will be joining Samuel L Jackson, who played his nephew in the 2000 reboot, and they will be joined by Survivor’s Remorse star Jessie T Usher who will be playing Jackson’s Shaft’s estranged son who is a cyber security expert with the FBI “which is sort of anti-Shaft family values,” says Jackson.
The new Shaft will arrive on June 14th 2019 and Ride Along director Tim Story will be at the helm
“He’s not quite as crazy and cynical,” Jackson says of his Shaft this time out, “maybe a bit more devil-may-care the last time we saw him. But still an extremely dangerous and funny character.”
“It’s enduring,” he adds, “we don’t have a lot of heroes, so the ones we have, we hold on to.”
Well, the return of Shaft is something we can definitely dig (sorry, not sorry).
