Star Wars’ romance with Christmas is officially over as Episode IX gets official release date…

April 25th, 2017 by Marc Comments

Ok, so when we first heard that Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens was set for Christmas 201 5 we were a bit disappointed because, to us at least, we believed that Star Wars and summertime belonged together.

And now, two Christmases in, we LOVE Star Wars at Christmas… Santa! Turkey! Star Wars! Not necessarily in that order!

Now however it looks like the Star Wars love affair with Christmas is officially over as Disney have officially announced that director Colin Trevorrow’s Star Wars Episode IX will arrive on May 24th, 2019.

Given that the Han Solo standalone movie is set for May 25th next year we can assume that it’s May from here on in for Star Wars.

Are you as disappointed as we are? Let us know…

Star Wars: The Last Jedi, from writer/director Rian Johnson, is in post-production now for a December 15, 2017, release. The film follows-up and continues the story of the next generation of the saga as Rey, Poe, Finn, and Kylo Ren find their place in the galaxy and follow the legacy of Luke Skywalker, Leia, and Han Solo. Daisy Ridley returns to star as Rey, with other returning stars John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Peter Mayhew, Andy Serkis, Anthony Daniels, Lupita Nyong’o Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher as General Leia Organa. Benicio Del Toro and Laura Dern join the cast in as-yet-unrevealed roles.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is slated for release on December 15, 2017. Han Solo: A Star Wars Story hits on May 25, 2018.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
