While we had Creature Commandos late last year, this summer is when James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU really kicks off when David Corenswet steps into the light as Superman, opening the door to the new DC cinematic universe proper.
And yes, I am aware that technically Blue Beetle, Peacemaker and Suicide Squad are already part of the DCU, well, mostly, but it officially sets sail with Superman.
But that’s just the beginning, here’s a quick overview of what’s coming in the next months and years:
Movies:
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow
Craig Gillespie’s Supergirl movie is currently about half-way through filing with Milly Alcock starring as Superman’s cousin. The movie is based on DC Comics’ Tom King, Bilquis Evely and Matheus Lopes book, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. The Movie is expected to arrive on June 26th, 2026.
Oh, check out leaked footage of Alcock’s Supergirl fighting Jason Momoa’s Lobo here!
Gunn released an image of Alcock on the set of the movie, doing her research, he wrote: “Can’t wait for you to see the latest version, portrayed by the indomitable @millyalcock, in June 2026”:
Clayface
With Eden Lake’s James Watkins in talks to direct the Mike Flanagan-penned movie this summer, it’s almost a sure thing that this will push DC out a horror door they’ve never tried before.
Safran said of the movie: “Clayface isn’t widely known as Penguin or Joker, but we think his story is as deeply resonant, thrilling and even more terrifying.”
Joining Supergirl in 2026, the movie has a September 11th release date.
Batman Brave and the Bold
Not to be confused with The Batman 2, this will see Batman’s debut in the DCU, joining Superman. While an official director hasn’t been announced, The Flash’s Andy Muschietti looks set to helm with Gunn saying he would be the first to see the script but won’t be named director until he’s happy to join the movie.
The movie is based on Grant Morrison’s run and will see Batman learn he has a son, Damien Wayne, the next Robin.
Gunn has said of the project: “Everybody knows I love Batman and it’s important to me so I’m working very closely with the writer on Brave and the Bold.”
SGT Rock
With Challengers’ Luca Guadagnino signed on to direct, the Word War II movie was looking to have Daniel Craig in the title role but he walked away – Gunn has denied Craig was attached but had been in talks.
Written by Challengers’ Justin Kuritzkes, Safran said of the movie: “What we love about SGT Rock is the opportunity to tell a story about heroism and conflict in compelling and unique way. Justin really wrote a wonderful screenplay and that’s what catapulted that project to the forefront.”
It is very possible too that we will meet GI Robot, played by Sean Gunn in Creature Commandos, in the movie as Rock was referenced in that series.
The movie will shoot this summer if they can find the right actor. Some rumours have Penguin himself, Colin Farrell, interested in the role.
Swamp Thing
James Mangold is still attached to write and direct this story of one of the founding members of Justice League Dark after he’s done with his Star Wars movie. While little else is known about the movie as of now, Kingpn himself, Vincent D’Onofrio has expressed interest in playing the character.
The movie could open the door to characters such as Etrigan and John Constantine, so it’s one that they’ll have to get right and that could, like Clayface, really go down the horror route.
Teen Titans
We Win’s Ana Nogueira has turned in her first draft of the movie and Gunn says: “It’s something she was really impassioned about, she turned over an amazing script to us. She’s fiddling with that now. It’s definitely not a finished script.”
James Mangold confirms he’s set to write the DCU’s Swamp Thing movie
Deathstroke and Bane
Matthew Orton is writing a script telling a story based around both Deathstroke and Bane; nothing else is known as of now.
Dynamic Duo
This animated movie will see not one but two versions of Robin going on an adventure. While originally expected to be part of the DCU, Gunn has cast some doubt on that now, saying that while it can certainly tie into the DCU, the nature of the story might mean it’s a standalone adventure.
The Authority
Following the antiheroes collectively known as The Authority, the movie has taken a bit of a knock-back, despite there being nods (and characters) to it set up in this summer’s Superman.
““it’s not the furthest along,” Gunn says.
“It is a very big movie, if you’re going to do it properly. Some of the story elements perhaps that are in Superman and some of the other films we fast-tracked, step a little on The Authority,” Safran added.
TV:
Peacemaker
Season 2 of the hit series is almost in the can and will be hitting HBO Max in August.
Creature Commandos
Gunn has already confirmed that the hit animated series has been greenlit for a second season. We can likely expect it sometime in early 2027.
Waller
With Viola Davis expected to return to her Suicide Squad, Creature Commandos and Peacemaker role of Amanda Waller, the series is still in development but has been knocked back too but is still expected to manifest in the near future.
Lanterns
Starring Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre as Hal Jordan and John Stewart,it was recently confirmed that Nathan Fillion will also appear, playing Guy Gardner, reprising his role from Superman. The series will his screens next fall and is expected to be a buddy cop series of sorts.
Paradise Lost
The Wonder Woman/Themyscira series has been billed by Safran as “Games of Thrones-ish story about Themyscira, the home of the Amazons and the birthplace of Wonder Woman.” While still planned, there is no writer or talent attached yet.
Booster Gold
While it’s likely this series will tie into the Blue Beetle movie and animated series (see below), Booster is a fraud from the future who comes to the modern world, pretending to be a superhero due to his future tech and abilities.
“We love Booster Gold,” Safran says, “There was a particular showrunner/creator we were waiting on who expressed interest. We waited a really long time; ultimately he fell out of love. We pivoted. It’s still one that’s important to us. It’s moving forward with somebody else.”
It’s believed that creator was Danny McBride.

Blue Beetle
This animated series comes from the director and writer of the live-action movie, Angel Manuel Soto and Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer and is getting to a point where it’s about to start. Cobra Kai star Xolo Maridueña will return to star.
Krypto
Similar to Gunn’s I Am Groot animated series at Marvel, the four-part animated show will follow Superman’s trusted best friend, will be set within the DCU and is expected to be seasonally themed – so a Christmas release, then?
Video Games:
While little is known at the minute, Gunn made it clear last February when the DCU was announced, that this new universe would include movies, TV shows (live-action and animated) and video games. As of now, he and Safran have confirmed they’ve met with both Injustice developer NetherRealm and Batman Arkham developer Rocksteady about future DC projects.
“We work incredibly closely with JB Perrette who runs that division,” says Safran, adding: “It’s really the first time it’s ever been this way at Warner Bros. James and I sit with the guys that run the studios under JB whether it’s NetherRealm or Rocksteady. We sit with them and we talk about characters and stories that we’re interested in and that they’re interested in.”
“We see designs for the projects in their very earliest stages,” said Gunn.
“We talk about those, we talk about what the story might be and we’ll say ‘Well, you maybe you want to go this way because we’re planning on maybe doing something with this character.’”
So, if you’re a DC fan like we all are here at FTN HQ, then strap in because there’s a lot of great stuff coming and it’s entirely likely there’s stuff we don’t know about coming too.
Thoughts? I wanna hear them, gang…
