WATCH: The altered ending to WandaVision is not a new character added in but rather a silly mistake

June 28th, 2021 by Marc Comments

Soooooooo… you may have heard a few people talking about how the final scene in WandaVision has been altered and is now different than what we saw originally in March when the series wrapped.

You may recall in the series, it ended with the camera panning out to a cabin in the wilderness, snowy trees and mountains surrounding the cabin, where we see that Wanda is living, haunted by the memory of her now destroyed family.

And, if you tune in to the episode on Disney+ now, the scene is still mostly intact (although trees have been added in and a duck removed. A duck?!) however, if you look really closely, you’ll see that, in the wide shot, it looks like a ghostly figure is approaching the cabin, flying over the treetops.

Now, this caused some fans to believe that this could be Doctor Strange (who was originally meant to appear in the show) or perhaps White Vision who disappeared in the last episode and, in fairness, it does look like something is heading towards the house.

You can check out theories here and here.

However, Reddit user Cinephobe has put forward a very interesting theory that it’s not Strange or Vision but rather… an editing error:

It’s pretty hard to argue with his reasoning here and it does indeed seem that this is not a deliberately inserted character but rather a tracking error by whatever software was used to remove a window in Wanda’s cabin.

Disappointed?

Well, you shouldn’t be.

Look, I love an Easter egg as much as the next nerd and I support fully director’s cuts and unedited versions of movies, but the notion of studios going in an editing material in such a fashion troubles me for some reason. And, make no mistake, the footage was altered – remember the trees and duck? (the duck?!) – as for why? Well, who knows? It certainly didn’t change anything of substance to the episode… it seems that, more than anything, this was a test to see if it could be done; the changes are too subtle to be much else.

Anyway, what do you all think? Is it a mistake or an inserted character? I want to hear your thoughts…

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
